The Chadar Trek is one of India’s most iconic adventure experiences. Every winter, the mighty Zanskar River freezes into a thick sheet of ice, creating a natural pathway through deep Himalayan gorges. Traditionally used by locals to travel between remote villages, this frozen trail has become one of the world’s most sought-after winter treks.
The journey challenges both body and mind. Temperatures can drop below -25°C, and trekkers spend nights in caves or riverside camps while surrounded by spectacular snow-covered mountains. Every day brings changing ice formations, frozen waterfalls, and breathtaking landscapes that few people ever witness.
The trek demands physical fitness, mental determination, and careful preparation, but the reward is an adventure unlike any other in India.
Train for endurance before attempting the trek. Book only with experienced trek operators. Acclimatize in Leh for at least two days. Carry adequate winter gear. Follow your trek leader's safety instructions.
